The Austrian Studies Program at the Berkeley Institute of European Studies is launching a new series of Transatlantic Conversations on "Science, Technology and Innovation for a Sustainable Future"
2 min lesen · 19. März 2021

Sustainability is a shared transatlantic priority to address today's global challenges. In dialogue with Austrian and North American experts, this series explores creative approaches to sustainability across different fields. How does urban design support livable, equitable communities? What does environmental history teach us about a sustainable future? How can digital technology create greener transportation and smarter cities? How do the arts and humanities help envision a more sustainable world? These questions and more will guide our conversations on the ecological, scientific, and cultural dimensions of sustainability, with a focus on knowledge-sharing and international exchange.

The first event on urban design and sustainable cities is coming up on March 31, 2021. For details and registration see 2021 Transatlantic Conversations Series. The next events are scheduled for April and May 2021. The conversations are organised in partnership with the Office of Science and Technology Austria (OSTA) and the Austria Centers of North America.

The Austria Centers have been established at universities and colleges in Europe, North America, Kanada and Israel. Supported by Austrian universities and other scientific and cultural institutions they serve the purpose of promoting scientific cooperation across boundaries. The Centers not only provide excellent scientific study on European and Austrian topics, they also are of great importance for the regional and international scientific community and support the cooperation between the higher education and research institutions in the respective countries and Austria.

Centers are situated in Minnesota, New Orleans, Edmonton, Leiden, Olomouc, Budapest, Berkeley, Jerusalem and Vienna. Since 2021 OeAD is in charge of the administrative support for the Centers.
