On 5 December we will show the films Terra Mater – Mother Land and A Letter from Yene at the Top Kino cinema. After the films high-profile guests will discuss about the global climate crisis and the challenges that the African continent faces.
The "Wissen.Schafft.Entwicklung" film days took place for the first time in 2012. Since then the team of APPEAR – the Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC)’s higher education cooperation programme at the OeAD, funded by the ADC – has invited people to film screenings on a wide range of topics and scientific disciplines every year.
Since 2016 the film days have taken place within the framework of the established international human rights film festival this human world – International Human Rights Film Festival and this year again in cooperation with the Vienna Institute for International Dialogue and Cooperation VIDC.

Terra Mater – Mother Land and A letter from Yene
Cinema as a meeting place and film as a form of resistance with an always critical view of global inequalities will be discussed and examined on different levels.
With the film and discussion format the APPEAR team at the OeAD wants to make development policy and development research accessible to a broad public.

Aminata Fall is an energy expert who specializes in the many dimensions of transition to energy sustainability, particularly in Africa. She has over 12 years’ experience working with international organizations that include the United Nations, the Economic Community of West African States, and the African Union. Between 2018 and 2020 Aminata coordinated the project Sustainable Energy Access for Sustainable Cities – SEA4Cities implemented by the Vienna University of Technology together with the Ecole Polytechnique Thies (Senegal), with funding from the Austrian Partnership Programme in Higher Education and Research for Development. Aminata holds a doctorate in Energy Economics completed at TU Vienna.
Marion Borderon is a researcher at the University of Vienna with a PhD in geography, focusing on the links between public health, population, and the environment. Her academic career began at the University of Aix-Marseille, France, where she studied the risks of malaria in Senegal. She has since then worked on international research projects ranging from climate change adaptation in Mauritania and Algeria to studies on environment-related mobility in India. For the past few years Marion has been studying how climate change is affecting migration patterns in Ethiopia. Outside of research she is a passionate alpinist and has a keen interest in all aspects of the environment.
Amina Guggenbichler is a climate activist and spokesperson for Earth Burns. She studies social work and gained experience on Fridays for Future and later in the Lobau movement.
Mariam Mohamed Abdalla Wagialla is an architect and urban planner with a focus on gender-sensitive spatial planning. The activist for women's rights has been living in Austria for ten years where she received her doctorate from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU) in Vienna in 2020. From 1989 to 2011 she worked at the Ministry of Physical Planning and Public Utilities in Khartoum.
