APPEAR in practice_18: Strengthening Bhutan’s Sustainable Building Practices
Unlocking the Potential: Strengthening Bhutan’s Sustainable Building Practices
Project Spotlight: HEESeB - Empowering Bhutan's Future Buildings
Explore the impactful collaboration between Jigme Namgyel Engineering College (JNEC) of the Royal University of Bhutan and the University of Innsbruck. HEESeB is dedicated to transforming sustainable and resilient building practices in Bhutan. The project will introduce a ground-breaking Timber Engineering for Energy Efficient Buildings (TEEEB) certificate programme at JNEC, producing qualified professionals for the planning, design and construction of sustainable infrastructure. Other key objectives include diversifying academic programmes, enhancing teaching support through gender, equity and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) courses, and facilitating knowledge generation through staff and student exchanges.
Recent Achievements & Project Progress:
The HEESeB project has already delivered three high-impact training of trainers (ToT) courses on gender-sensitive STEM education, building energy efficiency, and timber engineering. These courses contribute to professional development and inclusivity in engineering education. In addition, the recent Stakeholder Consultation Workshop held in Thimphu, Bhutan, on 3 July brought together professionals and educators in higher engineering and timber education. The outcomes of this workshop are set to shape Bhutan's education sector in line with the vision for a greener and more resilient future.
At APPEAR in practice 18, immerse yourself in insightful discussions, learn from transformative projects like HEESeB, and explore the possibilities of sustainable development through academic collaboration.
