23 new Africa-UniNet projects to start in 2024

6. Juni 2024
In the framework of the 4th Africa-UniNet call 23 cooperative research projects between universities and research institutions in Austria and in African countries were accepted for funding.

Out of 40 submitted applications within the framework of the 4th call, 23 applications were selected after an external review process. This brings the total number of implemented projects to more than 80 since Africa-UniNet was established in 2020.

The 23 selected projects of the fourth call comprise partnerships with institutions in 12 different countries in Africa: Egypt, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, São Tomé and Príncipe, South Africa and Uganda. They are coordinated by 22 different Africa-UniNet member institutions. The majority of the projects are coordinated by the African partner institution.

The projects are financed by the BMBWF with a total funding amount of ca. 600,000 euros for a project duration of up to two years. The themes of the projects cover a variety of science sectors ranging from molecular biology, genetics, pharmacognosy, algebra, soil science, sustainable agriculture, aquaculture, forestry, educational sciences, marketing and innovation management to gender mainstreaming and climate change.

They all share a cooperative and participatory approach, as well as the objective to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. The names and partner institutions of the financed projects are listed below. The projects are currently in the contracting process and will start within the next months. More information will be published upon project start.
