“At the university location Innsbruck demand for housing for international students is very high. Therefore today's ground-breaking ceremony is a milestone, also for Erasmus+ students and international students who are only in Innsbruck for a short period of time – for example with the Erasmus programme,” says Jakob Calice, the OeAD’s managing director. “We are happy to address exactly this target group and offer short-term rentals at affordable prices.”
The total living space of the rooms is approx. 3,150 m², the common areas on all floors are approx. 1,050 m² altogether, and the other usable areas and access areas excluding stairs, car park, technical equipment rooms cover 625 m², which results in a total area of approx. 4,825 m².
An ecological and hybrid construction method is used, a combination of reinforced concrete and wood, and renewable energies also make the residential building, which is planned as a 'passive house plus', even more efficient. A full-surface photovoltaic system will be installed on the roof. Approximately 170 places for students and lecturers are planned, as well as common areas such as a fitness room, study rooms, music practice room, chill-out and party zones, and an underground car park with 19 parking spaces. The student hall of residence will be operated by OeAD student housing and built by IIG (Innsbrucker Immobiliengesellschaft).
