With “Sparkling Science 2.0”, the OeAD funds research projects on behalf of the BMBWF in which research and educational institutions and, as far as possible, civil society work together and jointly contribute to the generation of innovative research results. Following the successful first call for proposals in 2021, the second call for proposals for “Sparkling Science 2.0” ran between June and the end of September 2023. From the 2024/25 school year, research will be conducted in 27 innovative citizen science projects.
With additional funding, the focus was once again placed on the creation of school priorities in the field of science, the involvement of peripheral schools or schools that have not yet been reached or have hardly been reached at all and the development of citizen science expertise through international networking. In addition, a thematic focus was placed on the subject areas of the EU missions of the EU research program ‘Horizon Europe’.
