Call: Visiting Professorship at Leiden University

Visiting Professorship at Leiden University in the summer term 2024/25 or 2025/26

In the second semester of each academic year, Visiting Professors from Austria visit Leiden University to teach about their specialisms (alternating between history, music, art, literature, often dealing with 19th and 20th century themes).

Target group:

  • PhD from an Austrian university in one of the following fields: history, art history, literature, and music; social scientists who utilise cultural or historical approaches in their study of Central Europe are also eligible
  • Tenured (‘unbefristete’) university position at an accredited Public Austrian University
  • Activity in Humanities research areas or closely related social sciences
  • Habilitation from 2009 or later or can show an academic career stage commensurate with this
  • Excellent command of English
  • Several years of experience at a university

Grant benefit paid:

Visiting professors shall remain employed at their institutions and retain their salaries. The remuneration is paid to the institution.

Leiden University provides visiting professors with

  • office space and access to digital services;
  • Housing will be arranged by the Leiden Austrian Studies Fund;

About the Austrian Centre Leiden:
The Foundation for Austrian Studies at the University of Leiden has been disseminating knowledge about Austria and Central Europe in the Netherlands and stimulating academic exchange since 1988. In close cooperation with Leiden University the foundation established a chair specialised in Austrian and Central European Studies. The history institute, the ‘Central and East European Studies Centre (CEES)’, founded in 2016, is a joint initiative with the Leiden Institute of Political Science and the Institute of Public Administration.
