In this second project week the students from the four countries once again produced joint multimedia reports. This year the participants of the International School of Multimedia Journalism (ISMJ) researched social responsibility in four teams. The resulting reports deal with domestic violence, emigration, waste separation and avoidance as well as the influence of individual media houses in Ukraine.
For five years journalism students of the University of Applied Sciences FHWien of the WKW have met students from different European countries in Vienna and the West Ukrainian city of Lviv to exchange ideas and to learn from each other. What began as an experiment has developed into a model for the future of multimedia journalism: a best practice example for the exchange of good ideas and knowledge among young journalists – and the beginning of many friendships.
The International School of Multimedia Journalism is run by the Journalism Media Management Department of the University of Applied Sciences FHWien of the WKW in cooperation with the Ukrainian Catholic University of Lviv. The joint programme cross-links journalism students across national borders and thus promotes an understanding of international media systems and the media landscape of other countries. Since 2016 two further project partners, the Danish School of Media and Journalism and the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs, have been participating. The project is financially supported by the OeAD Cooperation Office Lviv, the OeAD-GmbH, the Municipality of Vienna and the Cultural Section of the Federal Ministry of European and International Affairs (BMEIA).
