Special Issue on „Open Innovation in Science“

The special issue on Open Innovation in Science (OIS) was published in the journal Industry & Innovation. OIS is a novel concept that provides a framework for exploring openness and collaboration in scientific research.

The issue contains six OIS articles that explore the preconditions, conditions and consequences of open and collaborative practices at multiple levels. This includes collaborations between academics and non-academic partners such as companies and citizen scientists.

The following articles have been published:

• The Open Innovation in Science research field: a collaborative conceptualisation approach

This article addresses the conceptual basis by defining OIS and establishing a framework of OIS practices, antecedents, consequences and contingencies.

• How open is innovation research? – An empirical analysis of data sharing among innovation scholars
• The puzzle of sharing scientific data

These two articles address data sharing as a particular practice of open research.

• Crowds, citizens, and science: a multi-dimensional framework and agenda for future research
• A strategic alignment framework for the entrepreneurial university
• Open innovation in science: assessing the formation and function of SME-university collaborations through the proximity matrix

The last three articles focus on collaboration between academics and different types of partners outside academia.
