Large sums of EU funding remain unclaimed every year. One of the reasons for this is the lack of EU project management skills in institutions, companies and municipalities. In order to provide support here, the Master's degree programme in European Studies at University of Applied Sciences Burgenland focuses strongly on the successful acquisition and implementation of EU projects.
The programme’s aim is to address the existing demand for EU project management skills in companies and institutions. As leading EU experts emphasise, there is a lack of qualified EU project managers in Austria and in the EU as a whole. "One of the consequences is that proposed EU project funds remain unclaimed or projects go wrong," explains programme director Gerda Füricht-Fiegl. There is a big difference between classic project management and the management of EU projects.
Jobs for highly qualified EU project managers are available in individual EU member countries and EU candidate countries as well as in EU institutions. This degree programme, which is unique in Europe, is aimed at all those who see their professional future in the field of EU policies or who would like to implement EU projects. Work opportunities range from the EU institutions to national administration, i.e., federal, provincial and local authorities, companies, universities or other institutions.
