The OeAD’s managing director Jakob Calice and the president of the provincial parliament of Vienna, Ernst Woller, visited project partner institutions of the development cooperation lead project of the city of Vienna “AL-VET – Quality for ALL”, which is implemented and co-financed by OeAD, in Tirana.
Together with a large number of relevant partner institutions the project works on improving the quality of education in the two growth sectors of tourism and hospitality and IT in Albania. Another focus is on reducing barriers when it comes to gaining vocational qualifications, especially for girls.
Within the framework of the project visit the president of the provincial parliament Woller and the managing director Calice exchanged views with female pupils of the technical college for IT Hermann Gmeiner on how to increase the number of girls/women in the IT sector. Together with the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, they also visited one of the partner boarding schools in Tirana. In Albania boarding schools are the key to gaining professional qualifications or a school leaving certificate qualifying for university studies, especially for girls from disadvantaged families in rural areas.
