Applications are open to students of medicine at Austrian universities who are at least in their third year of study when the scholarship starts in October 2023 and whose main place of residence is in Austria.
When awarding the scholarships the following factors will be taken into account in addition to academic success:
- attachment to the Province of Lower Austria
- motivation to work as a general practitioner
- commitment to nursing and social issues
At least 10 students of human medicine will be financially supported. Students can receive this scholarship (monthly scholarship instalment: 923 euros) until they complete their medical studies (but for a maximum of 48 months) provided that they are successful in their studies.
After completing their university education the scholarship holders are guaranteed a position as a doctor in Lower Austria. In return they undertake to carry out their post-doctoral training in Lower Austria and to work as general practitioners for at least five years in a region where general practitioners are needed.
Applications are open as of today via the OeAD’s online application portal. The closing date for applications is 16 August 2023. The call for applications and link to the online application form can be found here.
The initiative to ensure health care in Lower Austria, which was launched in 2022, continues with this call for applications. In the first selection round in the autumn of 2022 20 applicants were selected.
The OeAD is pleased to be a cooperation partner of the Province of Lower Austria in this important initiative and will also conduct the second call for applications.
