This year’s Franz Werfel symposium of scholarship holders in follow-up support on 31 March and 1 April provided an opportunity for networking, exchange and professional discussion of the aspects of Austrian literature. The topic of the symposium was “Multilingualism – Polyphony”. Under the academic direction of Univ.-Prof. Dr. Werner Michler (University of Salzburg) the presentations ranged from medieval writings to contemporary literature.
35 participants of the programme and numerous other guests, including the former director of the programme, Univ.-Prof. Dr. Konstanze Fliedl, and Univ.-Prof. Dr. Hildegard Kernmayer (University of Graz, Franz Werfel selection committee) attended the conference. The conference was rounded off by the 14th Wendelin Schmidt-Dengler reading with Barbi Marković at the House of Literature in Vienna and the presentation of the symposium volume “Andere Wirklichkeiten. Pararealitäten in der österreichischen Literatur” (“Different Realities. Pararealities in Austrian literature”) from the 2022 symposium.
