October is always a particularly busy month for our OeAD regional offices in Vienna, Linz, Salzburg, Graz and Innsbruck. Fortunately, the number of incoming mobilities in the winter semester 2022/23 is again increasing very strongly.

The OeAD Regional Office Vienna is currently taking care of 463 scholarship holders. (as of 18 October, no. of commenced scholarships). This means a clear return to the numbers before the pandemic. "Before, a number of 500 to 550 scholarship holders was the rule. I am pleased to say that we are back on track," says Martina Rahberger, Head of the OeAD Regional Office Vienna.

219 alone are from Ukraine and are receiving a scholarship from the new Ernst Mach Ukraine scholarship programme. Within the framework of this programme, new scholarships are awarded on an ongoing basis, as there is no deadline for submission, and submitting scholarship applications is possible on an ongoing basis. To date, over 1000 scholarship applications have already been processed under this programme.

The top 10 nations represented are:

  • Ukraine - 219
  • Czech Republic - 35
  • Indonesia - 24
  • Croatia and Pakistan 15 each
  • Slovakia 14
  • Serbia, Thailand and Hungary 12 each
  • and Poland 11.

In total, people from 43 nations are being taken care of by the OeAD Regional Office Vienna in the month of October.

The regional offices throughout Austria take care of the scholarship holders personally and individually, check insurance and residence permits, provide advice together with the legal department regarding questions of immigration law and, of course, transfer the monthly scholarship. All those who have booked accommodation through OeAD Student Housing also enjoy the advantage that the monthly costs for accommodation are automatically deducted from the scholarship.

On Friday, 21 October, after a break of three years due to the corona, a Welcome Event will take place again in the OeAD House. OeAD is very much looking forward to welcoming 100 people from all over the world.
