On August 5, our annual excursion to Schneeberg took place. 35 OeAD scholarship holders from a total of ten different nations accompanied us on the hike to the summit of the highest mountain in Lower Austria.
After a 40-minute ride on the green-yellow spotted cog railroad "Salamander", which transported us comfortably to an altitude of 1800 meters above sea level, the tour could begin.
In contrast to 2021, this year the weather was on our side and so we were able to enjoy the magnificent view over the surrounding landscape. The friendly conversations and exchange during the hike ensured that the scholarship holders not only got to know the Austrian mountains, but also each other.
During our breather at the Fischerhütte, we were served delicacies such as "Leberknödelsuppe" (liver dumpling soup), "Käsespätzle" (cheese spaetzle) and refreshing elderberry spritz and thus also had an extraordinary culinary experience. Refreshed, we gathered our strength for the last part of the route, before we finally got on the Salamander that took us downhill again.
Here are some of our scholar's comments:
- How everything was perfectly planned and executed, Katharina's high spirits, the view on top, and the food as well. Cheese schnitzel is my new favorite.
- I made new friends and discovered one more beautiful place in Austria where I will go someday again for sure and maybe climb the mountain from the bottom without using the salamander train :)
- I love the scenery.. hope I have another time to visit Austria Again
