Austria-China: Higher education cooperation with Tongji University

Helmut Rakowitsch, the Austrian Consul General in Shanghai and the head of the OeAD Cooperation Office Shanghai Alexandra Wagner visited Tongji University on October 18, 2021. Subsequently, Prof. YUAN Yong from the College of Civil Engineering of Tongji University, and Prof. ZHOU Su from the School of Automotive Studies of Tongji University (a professorship sponsernd by AVL List) shared their experiences of cooperating with Austrian researchers. 

Prof. LEI Xinghui, the Vice President for German-speaking countries’ affiars, Prof. LOU Yongqi, the Vice President for internationalization, and Prof. CHEN Yi, the Head of the International Office of Tongji University also participated in the meeting. 

Founded as the German Medical School by a German doctor in 1907, Tongji University is one of the most prestigious universities in China. According to the latest Global Universities Rankings by US News & World Report, Tongji University ranks 13th in the Country Ranking of China and 32nd in Best Global Universities in Asia. 

Tongji University has set up remarkable examples of collaborating with Austrian universities. Tongji University and TU Graz are planning to build a joint lab in tunneling engineering with TU Wien.
