The winners of this year's #writeAUT writing competition were recently chosen at the Austrian Cultural Forum London. Students from universities in the UK and Ireland were invited to submit texts on six Austrian artists this year: Emilie Flöge, Alma Mahler-Werfel, Ingeborg Bachmann, Christine Nöstlinger, Valie Export, Soap & Skin. The writing competition took place for the second time in 2019 and was launched last year by OeAD lecturers in the UK and Ireland.

Prior to the award ceremony the winning text was selected by a jury of five experts. This year the first place went to Caroline Beaumelou with their text "Wer ist das denn? She can look forward to the main prize, a trip to Vienna worth £300. Moreover, an audience favourite was chosen through online voting. Alexandra Philbin won this prize with her text "Reformkleid". Congratulations!

The 19 best texts of the competition have been published in the writeAUT magazine, which is available online. This project was supported by the Austrian Cultural Forum London, the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research and the OeAD. We would like to thank the OeAD lecturers for their great commitment and the organisation of the writeAUT writing competition 2019.
