This year the Austrian Prize for Development Research will be awarded again. The prize consists of a main prize and a junior researcher’s prize and is awarded by the Agency for Education and Internationalisation (OeAD) from funds from the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF). Nominations for the main prize and articles for the junior researcher’s prize can be submitted until 16 July 2023.
Both prizes – the main prize and the junior researcher’s prize – contribute to improving the visibility of development research. They serve to stimulate the scientific discourse relevant to development as well as its anchoring in society in Austria and the scientific discussion of globally relevant topics of development research and the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. In order to do justice to the diversity of development research a broad spectrum of topics is covered and the transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary character of research is emphasised.
The main prize is endowed with EUR 5,000 and is awarded every second year to a person or institution for scientifically outstanding publications, projects or initiatives. In 2023 the main prize will be awarded to a person who has made a significant contribution to development research in Austria. There will be an open nomination process for the main prize.
The junior researcher’s prize, endowed with EUR 2,500, is also awarded every second year. Each call for entries for the junior researcher’s prize has its own thematic focus. The main topic for 2023 is: "ENERGY TRANSITION and GLOBAL SOUTH". Persons up to the age of 35 with a master’s degree are eligible to participate.
