New citizen science projects in Lower Austria

The FTI-Citizen Science funding program once again supports innovative projects that actively involve citizens in scientific research.

The Gesellschaft für Forschungsförderung Niederösterreich is funding five exciting projects that address socially relevant topics such as climate change, health and disinformation and develop practical solutions together with the population.

The new projects at a glance

  • Communities-Climate Alliance: CoClimA
    Citizens develop measures for climate-friendly communities together with experts. The aim is to identify sustainable approaches and implement them directly in the municipalities.
  • Biomechanical biomarkers for knee osteoarthritis
    This nationwide citizen science study is investigating how biomechanical biomarkers affect the physical function and health of patients in everyday life.
  • Young citizen scientists against disinformation
    The project enables young people to recognize and effectively combat disinformation. The aim is to promote media literacy and reduce the spread of false information.
  • Healthy on the Net' (GIN)
    Together with citizens, a tool is being developed to identify trustworthy health information on social media. This strengthens the ability to make informed decisions in the digital health sector.
  • Promoting adaptation to climate change and against the bark beetle
    Using a transformative citizen science approach, the project is developing strategies to adapt to climate change and combat the bark beetle.
