First drawn up in 2016, the guidelines have now been adapted to the changed framework conditions of science communication.
The guidelines emphasise the central role of truthfulness in science communication and demand that communication should be carried out with the same care and according to the same values that apply in science itself. They serve as orientation for scientists, communicators and institutions in order to promote dialogue between science and society and to strengthen trust.
A checklist within the guidelines helps to identify and answer unpleasant questions at an early stage. This should help to make communication from and about science more sustainable and crisis-proof. The new guidelines offer valuable impulses for the daily work of science communicators and promote an open and transparent exchange between science and the public.
The complete guidelines can be viewed on the website of the Federal Association of University Communication (in German).
