At the start of the 2024/25 school year, 27 new Sparkling Science projects were launched in Austria, bringing together science, schools and society.
A recently published article in the journal GREEN CARE sheds light on the background to the ‘Sparkling Science 2.0’ research programme and presents innovative examples of best practice.
In the projects, researchers work together with pupils and interested citizen scientists on socially relevant research questions. The projects presented in the article are dedicated to topics such as climate protection, biodiversity or sustainable nutrition and show how research can be organised in a participatory way. For example, outreach activities take place in public spaces in order to better involve hard-to-reach groups, or pupils have the opportunity to participate in research as part of internships in the project and thus apply their skills in a real working environment.
Hence, the article ‘Sparkling Science: Here we go again!’ offers exciting insights into the ongoing and newly funded projects and provides examples of successful science communication.
