Amphibians are among the most endangered animal groups in Austria and worldwide. One example of this is the endangered green toad. An innovative app for amphibian calls is intended to help record the occurrence of the green toad throughout Austria.
With the AmphiApp, the calls can be easily recorded and interested parties can contribute to research. In Austria, the green toad is mainly found in the east, with some isolated populations in the west. However, most of the natural spawning waters of the green toad have largely disappeared. The toads have therefore had to adapt and now often spawn in artificial bodies of water.
Collecting amphibian call recordings with the AmphiApp not only enables the identification of spawning waters and green toad occurrences, but also provides insights into the effects of environmental noise on the behaviour of these animals.
