Online Lunch Meeting: Overconfidence and scientific scepticism
On 22 May 2024, 13:00-14:00, the Science Center Network invites you to an online networking lunch on the topic of "Overconfidence and scientific scepticism". Science communication expert Simone Lackner will present her research, in which she investigated cognitive biases that underlie human opinion formation with regard to attitudes towards science. The study showed that overconfidence is high among people with an average level of knowledge and can go hand in hand with a less positive attitude towards science.
The two co-authors of the study on the causes of scientific scepticism, Johannes Starkbaum (IHS) and Klaus Taschwer (derStandard), will then reflect on the results and place them in the context of previous findings. Afterwards, there will be time for questions from the audience and an open discussion, moderated by Barbara Streicher from the ScienceCenter-Netzwerk association. Further information on participating in the network can be found on the Science Centre Network website.
