The 6th National Science and Mathematics, Research and Innovation Award of Ethiopia was awarded to Tesfaye Getachew Mengistu and his team at the Debre Berhan Agricultural Research Center.

Tesfaye Getachew is a former APPEAR scholarship holder who completed his PhD at the BOKU in Vienna. The topic of the PhD was “Estimation of genetic admixture levels in Awassi-Local crossbred sheep using ancestry informative genetic markers for designing crossbreeding scheme”. He is now working on a community-based sheep breeding programme at the Livestock Department of the Debre Berhan Agricultural Research Center.
