Playfully contributing to the exploration of the ‘mental lexicon’

On average, an adult knows around 40,000 words. In the citizen science project ‘Small World of Words’, language and memory researchers from an international team led by the Max Planck Institute for Human Development are investigating how everyone stores these words in their own mental lexicon.

By taking part in the word association game, German speakers of all ages and nationalities can help to create a network that maps this knowledge. In just 5 minutes, you can make a contribution to research by collecting your own associations for 18 terms.
