Charles Rutikanga is a lecturer at the University of Rwanda, Department of Social Sciences/ Social Work. Currently in Austria pursuing his PhD studies in Development Studies at the University of Vienna, Charles holds a Master degree of Social Work and Social Administration from Uganda Christian University and a Bachelor degree in social work from former National University of Rwanda, today University of Rwanda. He was the PROSOWO II Rwanda country coordinator (January to September 2016), a role he also played in PROSOWO I (March 2011 to December 2014). The PROSOWO II project is implemented by five Universities in East Africa and one university of applied sciences in Austria. Before joining academia, Charles worked as social work practitioner for three years in Health Unlimited (HU) currently known as Health Poverty Action. While in HU, he served from junior to top management positions. In his current job he has been involved in the implementation of different research projects. He has benefited from a number of lecturer exchange visits to Austria, USA, Sweden and Uganda. He also attended and presented in different social work professional conferences in various countries (Uganda, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, Burundi, Austria, USA, Australia and Sweden). His research interests are in the areas of poverty, social work practice and education, child and family protection and social development.
