Review and video: Sparkling Science Spotlight with MAJA and Snow2School

Two Sparkling Science projects presented their research and lessons learned in the webinar.
2 min read · 12. April 2024

On 11 April 2024, Clemens Fuchs (University of Salzburg) from the Sparkling Science project "MAJA" and Wolfgang Schöner (University of Graz) from "Snow2School" gave an insight into their research content and their collaboration with pupils as citizen scientists. They talked about mathematical algorithms, snow observations in Greenland and Austria and the lessons learnt from the projects.

Lessons learned

Clemens Fuchs emphasised that close cooperation between the teachers and the university team is a success factor, as it enables a direct connection to the school classes. In addition, formats outside of the classroom are particularly popular with pupils, as the project team recently held a three-day algorithms workshop in the Salzkammergut region.

Wolfgang Schöner reported that the participating pupils in Austria and Greenland are very interested in each other's work and are keen to engage in intensive dialogue. As the project deals with both natural science and social science issues, different areas of interest are addressed, which increases their motivation.

More information from the projects, lessons learnt and tips can be found in the recording.
