Citizen science creates impact with and for people and goes far beyond what can be captured with numbers and statistics. While impact is often measured in numbers, these only tell part of the story. The true impact and change brought about by citizen science engagement is diverse, profound and touches areas that cannot be fully captured by numbers alone.

The stories of impact presented in this book exemplify how citizen science is contributing to a more inclusive and sustainable future in Europe. Each story highlights the diverse ways in which citizens are engaging in science, from local environmental monitoring projects and ad hoc activities in public libraries to strategic efforts to mainstream citizen science at the national level and beyond. These stories demonstrate the power of collective action, where everyday people join forces with scientists to effect meaningful change.
