"Hour of Winter Birds" from January 5 to 7, 2024

The "Hour of Winter Birds" is Austria's largest bird census and will take place for the 15th time from January 5 to 7, 2024.
1 min read · 05. January 2024

The focus of this major participatory BirdLife campaign is on researching the most common and widespread winter bird species in our towns and villages, such as blackbirds, sparrows, finches and tits.

Anyone can take part in the bird count, no previous knowledge is required. Common winter birds can be easily identified with the help of the join-in folder. During the counting period from January 5 to 7, 2024, interested citizen scientists are invited to count the birds spotted for one hour. The count can be carried out at a bird feeder, in your own garden, window, balcony or park.

Further information and the reporting platform can be found on the BirdLife Austria website (in German).
