Wissen der Vielen: excellent citizen science research was honored

Citizens Create Knowledge (Bürger schaffen Wissen) announced the "Knowledge of the Many" research prize for the first time in 2023. The award ceremony took place at the Citizen Science Forum.

The Knowledge of the Many - Research Prize for Citizen Science, which was awarded for the first time in 2023, recognizes excellent scientific achievements in the application of the citizen science approach. An interdisciplinary jury of professors evaluated the nominations submitted and decided on the award. 

Three researchers were honored at the Forum Citizen Science 2023.

1st place: Dr. Christopher Kyba, Helmholtz Centre Potsdam German Research Centre for Geosciences and Institute of Geography, Ruhr University Bochum
Dr. Christopher Kyba is a researcher who has been working with citizens for many years to combat light pollution.

2nd place: Julia Binder, agroforestry monitoring research network and Institute of Landscape Ecology, University of Münster
She researches the benefits of agroforestry systems, i.e. the integration of woody plants into agricultural production systems.

3rd place: Anna Natalie Meyer, Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Center for Polar and Marine Research (AWI)
Award winner Anna Natalie Meyer is a biologist and is studying for a Master's degree in Marine Biological Resources. She researched plastic waste on Arctic beaches.
