The new interdisciplinary bachelor program "Nutrition-Movement-Health" at the University of Salzburg will host an online lecture series on citizen science in the winter semester 2022/23. Under the title "Participatory Research", the course will provide an overview of what citizen science is, what it is used for, and how the research method is applied in practice. Best practice examples will provide insight into the application of citizen science in different disciplines and approaches, with a thematic focus on nutrition, physical activity and health.

In addition to the case studies, an overarching look was taken at institutional perspectives, quality assurance, and reaching diverse target groups. As part of this, Marika Cieslinski from the OeAD Center for Citizen Science gave a presentation on October 21, 2022 on the institutionalisation of citizen science in Austria with a focus on the initiatives of the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research handled by the OeAD. In doing so, she addressed the foundation and tasks of the OeAD Center for Citizen Science as well as the research competition "Citizen Science Award" or the funding program "Sparkling Science 2.0".

In the second session on October 28, 2022, Florian Westreicher from the University of Innsbruck and Marika Cieslinski will jointly spoke about the collaboration of science and school in citizen science projects. In addition to general inputs, two exemplary projects of the University of Innsbruck were presented. Also the brochure "Citizen Science - Research with Schools. Basics, recommendations & practical tips for joint projects" was mentioned.
