From April 1 to July 9, all schools and interested individuals are invited to participate in eight citizen science projects on a wide variety of topics.

A special focus in terms of research methods this year is the monitoring of different natural phenomena. Citizen scientists can observe weather patterns, report fossils from the Mesozoic and native or alpine plants and animals, or research forage plants suitable for wild bees. In other projects, volunteers can research the social ties between school classes, create dictionary entries on Austrian youth language or dialects, and co-develop digital teaching and learning tools on bionics.

The most committed citizen scientists will again be honored at a festive ceremony in autumn 2021.

These are the projects

Humanities

  • IamDiÖ - Explore German in Austria: Create dictionary entries or even entire dictionaries of dialects or youth languages!

Social Sciences

  • Class Community 2.0: Develop digital interventions with researchers to strengthen social ties in the classroom!

Natural Sciences

  • wettermelden.at: Observe the effects of weather!
  • Vielfalt bewegt! Alpine Club from young to old: Join the biodiversity monitoring of 20 different animal and plant species! (Attention: only for schools and individuals in the alpine area).
  • Spring bloomers and summer splendor: Report online the diversity of plants in your area!
  • PolliDiversity: Get involved in monitoring plant pollination by bees
  • Enter Bionics - The Mixed Reality Bionics Lab: Help develop inquiry-based learning and experimentation in the field of bionics!
  • Fossilfinder: Support the exploration and documentation of fossils!

More information on the projects will be available in February!
