This corresponds to 27.6 percent of all students. This percentage has hardly changed compared to the previous academic year (27.1 percent). Exactly 30,096 German passport holders were enrolled at Austrian higher education institutions. The number of Italian students (9,087), of which many South Tyroleans, who have the same status as Austrians according to the higher education law, is distinctly lower. This is followed by students from Bosnia and Herzegovina (4,263), Turkey (3,399), Croatia (2,903), Hungary (2,639) and Serbia (2,575). Iran (2,069) is the first country of origin of students outside Europe. Approximately two thirds of the foreign students come from EU member countries.
