New paper on the integration of AI and citizen science in the context of the SDGs

Researchers from the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis and University College London show how the combined use of AI and citizen science can help tackle major sustainability challenges.

By harnessing the collaborative power of AI and citizen science, the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) could be better monitored and the synergies harnessed to achieve sustainable development.

The authors argue that AI has already been integrated into citizen science projects, but that citizen science has yet to be integrated into AI. Their integrated use could revolutionize data collection and improve public engagement, but risks and challenges must also be considered.
