The European University Association (EUA) presents the views and perspectives of the European higher education sector on current political and social changes.

The last few years have been characterised by major changes and challenges in society, politics, economy and technology. These have also influenced European higher education institutions. With the report "Trends 2024 – European higher education institutions in times of transition" the EUA now provides an overview for the ninth time of how higher education institutions assess their situation and what developments they expect in their sector. Based on a survey of 480 higher education institutions in the European Higher Education Area the report analyses the perspectives and strategies of higher education institutions with regard to their diverse tasks. The focus is on the years since the publication of the last EUA Trends 2018 as well as an outlook for the next five years. EUA Trends 2024 concentrates on the educational mission, changes in the student body and educational provision, the improvement of learning and teaching, the increase in studies without earning a degree and developments in the areas of mobility and internationalisation. The consequences and reactions of the higher education institutions to the Covid-19 pandemic were also surveyed, and common academic fundamental values are a topic of the report for the first time.
