The Institute for Jewish History Austria is leading the research project "NS-Volksgemeinschaft und Lager" together with the Department of Art and Cultural Studies at the University of Continuing Education Krems.
Background of the research project
During the Nazi era, forced laborers were employed in almost all businesses and farms. Both these camp-like accommodations and the large concentration camps and prisoner of war camps resulted in contacts and even relationships with the local population that can hardly be found in official documents. With the help of local citizen scientists, the research project "NS-Volksgemeinschaft und Lager" aims to recall this largely forgotten aspect of history.
Citizen science workshops
In January and February 2023, workshops will be held with the project team for joint discussion and research in community libraries of selected locations. Interested parties can also contribute documents, photos and memories from their own family.
