Science Fund funds four new citizen science projects

For the sixth time, the Austrian Science Fund is funding extension modules of ongoing FWF projects through its Top Citizen Science program.
2 min read · 21. October 2022

With the Top Citizen Science (TCS) funding initiative, the FWF supports extension projects of already funded FWF projects which are suitable in terms of content and methodology and which are expanded by means of citizen science components. Of the 14 submissions received as part of the sixth call for proposals in spring 2022, four projects were selected that enable citizen participation and meet the standard of excellence in research work. The four approved projects will be funded with approximately 50,000 euros each with a maximum duration of two years, with the possibility of a cost-neutral extension.

The four new Top Citizen Science projects come from the humanities and social sciences with a focus on the arts. The funded projects are led twice by the Academy of Fine Arts, once by the University of Vienna, and once by the Vienna University of Technology. These are:

  • Stories of Post-extractive Feminist Futures
    Project leader: Karin Reisinger
Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Institute for the Artistic Teaching Profession
  • Salon of open secrets
    Project leader: Stefanie Wuschitz
Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Institute for the Artistic Teaching Profession
  • The ABC of Dialects: Exploring historical notes digitally
    Project leader: Alexandra Lenz
University of Vienna, Institute for German Studies
  • City Layers: Citizen Mapping as a Practice of City-Making
    Project leader: Peter Mörtenböck
