Higher Education for resilient resources in refugee–host areas | AMUTI | Report on 2nd project year

Over the past year, the AMUTI project has made remarkable progress in strengthening research capacity, enhancing institutional collaboration, and deepening community engagement between Austrian and Ugandan partners. As part of the APPEAR Programme, AMUTI brings together Muni University, BOKU University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna and PALM Corps to advance transdisciplinary research and co-creation of knowledge in refugee and host community settings.

Edu4GEO2 | Report on the 2nd project year

The second year of the project was characterised by the reopening of universities in the Amhara region following the outbreak of conflict. This enabled the launch of the Geomatics Master's programme. Courses were delivered using a team-teaching approach, with Austrian lecturers teaching online via Zoom and Ethiopian colleagues providing on-site support. Initial community services were provided for land administration experts and local farmers. Equipment for DMU and BDU teaching and learning activities has been ordered and will be used in future.

APPEAR representatives visit Agroecology project in Uganda’s Rwenzori Region

In January 2025, the APPEAR Office visited the region to strengthen collaboration with universities, farming communities, and cooperatives. The team met with the leadership of Mountains of the Moon University, acknowledging the university’s support and the dedicated efforts of the project team. They also visited Uganda Martyrs University, the Youth United Farmers Group, recognized for its proactive approach to sustainable agriculture, and the Kaghema Aghetereana Cooperative Society, a self reliant organization producing certified organic cocoa.
