  Event Summary: 15th S-DHG Forum 2025

  Around 60 participants from funding agencies and organisations across Europe and around the world came together for the 15th S-DHG Forum 2025 – the Forum of the Cooperation for Sustainable Development in Higher Education Group (S-DHG), which took place in November 2025 at OeAD in Vienna. The meeting focused on a central challenge: how to communicate the value of higher education cooperation with the Global South during a time of increasing global uncertainty, shrinking budgets, and shifting political priorities.

  Iuliia Nosulia: ÖGTPM 2025 Conference Participation

  APPEAR scholar Iuliia Nosulia recently took part in the conference of the Austrian Society for Tropical Medicine, Parasitology and Migration Medicine Graz. She presented new molecular insights into the diversity of intestinal parasites in golden jackals from her PhD research in Armenia. Using DNA-based methods, this research provides the first confirmed records of several parasite species of veterinary and public health relevance, highlighting the importance of One Health surveillance at the wildlife–domestic animal–human interface.

  Research on Gender Transformative Approaches for Natural Resource Governance in Uganda

  Caroline Paparu, a PhD candidate at BOKU University investigates how environmental degradation and social inclusion intersect in contexts of displacement and shared resource use. Her research is conducted within the APPEAR-funded AMUTI project and focusing on the Rhino Camp refugee settlement in Uganda’s West Nile region—home to refugees from South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
