Hope Mwanake presented PhD research at EGU General Assembly 2025

Hope Mwanake attended the European Geosciences Union (EGU) General Assembly 2025, held at the Austria Center Vienna from 27 April to 2 May. This high-profile international conference brought together over 19,000 geoscientists from around the world, covering all disciplines of Earth, planetary, and space sciences. The EGU General Assembly serves as a vibrant forum for scientists, especially early career researchers, to present their work and engage with experts across various geoscience fields.

Yerevan State University and University of Vienna launch APPEAR project on fungal biodiversity

As part of the project activities, a delegation from Yerevan State University visited their Austrian partner institution in April 2025 to launch the collaboration on “Biodiversity Assessment and DNA Barcoding of Mycorrhizal and Xylotrophic Fungi in Forested Regions of Armenia”. This provided a platform to engage in scientific discussions, to outline project objectives and to plan upcoming joint activities.

PhD Research on microplastics in Lake Victoria fish

Timothy Omara, an APPEAR scholar and PhD candidate at BOKU University, presented his research on microplastic pollution in some endemic fish species of Lake Victoria at the MICROPLASTICdays 2025. ReMoDe Project: Stakeholder visit/exchange in Innsbruck/Kaunertal

In December 2024, the University of Innsbruck had the pleasure of hosting the project partner from Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, along with key stakeholders from the involved pilot region, Mestia. Edu4GEO2 | Report on the 2nd project year

The second year of the project was characterised by the reopening of universities in the Amhara region following the outbreak of conflict. This enabled the launch of the Geomatics Master's programme. Courses were delivered using a team-teaching approach, with Austrian lecturers teaching online via Zoom and Ethiopian colleagues providing on-site support. Initial community services were provided for land administration experts and local farmers. Equipment for DMU and BDU teaching and learning activities has been ordered and will be used in future.
