On 19 September 2025, Mountains of the Moon University (MMU) hosted a colourful dinner to mark the successful conclusion of the project Strengthening of Higher Education, Research and Science Communication in Agroecology in the Rwenzori Region in Western Uganda (AER) Phase II. The dinner brought together university leaders, represented by the Dean of Students, project implementers and stakeholders who played an instrumental role in the project's implementation and support over the years.
The dinner was not only a celebration of achievements but also a reflection on the project’s impact. Under Phase II, AER has significantly strengthened agroecology education, practical research, and innovation at MMU, while also deepening community engagement across the Rwenzori region. It has enabled the University to expand training opportunities for students, enhance staff research capacity, and promote stronger linkages with farmers and extension workers.
Speaking at the dinner, the Dean of Students Ms. Ssali Roselyne, commended the project team for their dedication and highlighted AER’s role in positioning Mountains of the Moon University as a regional hub for agroecology, sustainability, and community transformation.
The dinner climaxed with a cake-cutting ceremony, symbolizing the sweet success of the project, followed by the presentation of gift accolades to the project implementers in recognition of their dedication and tireless contribution to the success of AER Phase II.
As AER Phase II comes to a close, its legacy lives on through the strengthened MSc in Agroecology, vibrant Living Labs, empowered farming communities, and inclusive learning approaches that have established Mountains of the Moon University as a leading institution of agroecological innovation and sustainability in the Rwenzori region and beyond.
