Dr. Nyadoi Priscilla is a trailblazing Ugandan scientist and OeAD Scholarship alumna who studied population genetics of Tamarindus indica L. at Austria’s AIT and the University of Vienna. She earned her PhD from Makerere University in 2011. Today, she serves as Deputy Director at Uganda Martyrs University and is the Chairperson of the Organization for Women in Sciences for the Developing World (OWSD) Uganda National Chapter. The 21st edition of the APPEAR in practice series, which took place on 10 June 2025, focused on gender-sensitive urban transformation in informal settlements and slums in Ethiopia and Mozambique. The event presented key results from the ongoing GIRT project – Strengthening Research and Educational Competences of HEIs for Gender-sensitive Urban (InfoRmal Settlement) Transformation –, a collaboration between universities in Ethiopia (Addis Ababa University, Bahir Dar University and Mekelle University), Mozambique (Lúrio University) and Austria (University for Continuing Education Krems). The project examines the housing and living conditions of women in the rapidly urbanising environments in Ethiopia and Mozambique, with the aim of strengthening the research and teaching capacities of the participating institutions.2 min lesen · 30. The project Countering Violent Crime against Women and Girls in Georgia (COVIOCRIM) aims at building a professional network of “first responders” in order to effectively and sustainably address the challenges of violence against women and girls (VAWG) in Georgia. The project will implement interactive and interdisciplinary training programmes, expand academic qualification opportunities, and establish a Legal Clinic in Tbilisi to provide victims of VAWG with accessible and immediate support.
