Higher Education for resilient resources in refugee–host areas | AMUTI | Report on 2nd project year

Over the past year, the AMUTI project has made remarkable progress in strengthening research capacity, enhancing institutional collaboration, and deepening community engagement between Austrian and Ugandan partners. As part of the APPEAR Programme, AMUTI brings together Muni University, BOKU University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna and PALM Corps to advance transdisciplinary research and co-creation of knowledge in refugee and host community settings.

Edu4GEO2 | Report on the 2nd project year

The second year of the project was characterised by the reopening of universities in the Amhara region following the outbreak of conflict. This enabled the launch of the Geomatics Master's programme. Courses were delivered using a team-teaching approach, with Austrian lecturers teaching online via Zoom and Ethiopian colleagues providing on-site support. Initial community services were provided for land administration experts and local farmers. Equipment for DMU and BDU teaching and learning activities has been ordered and will be used in future.

GIRT | Report on the 2nd project year

The everyday lives of women in informal settlements in Ethiopia and Mozambique are the focus of the research project "Strengthening Research and Educational Competences of HEIs for Gender sensitive Urban (InfoRmal Settlement) Transformation" (GIRT). Using transdisciplinary methods, a participatory process is to be developed with local stakeholders in four selected cities to improve the living conditions of women. At the same time, the project will address how transformative, knowledge-led cooperation between societies and science is possible in the context of the Global South.

Edu4GEO2 | Report on the 1st project year

Major achievements in the first year included the development and approval of a new MSc Geomatics curriculum for DMU, the initiation of PhD projects for Ethiopian students funded by APPEAR scholarships, and the awarding of an honorary doctorate to Reinfried Mansberger for his contributions to academic cooperation in Ethiopia.
