New article on PROSOWO (Promotion of Professional Social Work in East Africa) published

Helmut Spitzer is a Professor of Social Work at Carinthia University of Applied Sciences, Austria. He is the coordinator of the projects PROSOWO I and II whose objective is to strengthen social work education and practice in East Africa. Recently he has written an article with the title "Social work in East Africa: A mzungu perspective", that was published in the journal International Social Work, a scholarly peer reviewed journal.

“Tropical Agro-ecosystems Conference” from 13th to 16th of December 2017, on Ssese Islands, Uganda

In the second week of December 2017 the team of the APPEAR Project Strengthening of Higher Education, Research and Community Outreach in Agro-Ecology in the Rwenzori Region in Western Uganda | AER will participate in the “Tropical Agro-ecosystems Conference” which will take place on the Ssese Islands in Lake Victora, Kalangala District, Uganda. The aim of the conference is to exchange knowledge, strengthen the agroecological network and to foster agroecological policy implementation in tropical areas.

AAPLHRE project participates at Film days 2017

In this event, researchers of the APPEAR project AAPLHRE in Ethiopia that focuses on human rights education will give additional input on current land use rights and land grabbing, developments and drawbacks in this regard. They are invited as speakers for the discussion after the movie "Dead Donkeys Fear No Hyenas".

International Social Work Conference - organised by PROSOWO II project

Members of the Conference Organizing Committee met in Rwanda to take concrete action for the 2018 social work conference in Kigali, Rwanda. So far, almost 300 delegates have already registered for this event coinciding with World Social Work Day 2018.

SUSFISH-plus kick-off meeting

The University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna was the venue for the kick-off meeting within the SUSFISH-plus project. Burkinabe delegates (Raymond Ouedraogo, Moumini Savadogo, Patrice Toe, Adama Oueda) came together with all Austrian SUSFISH-pus key scientists for an intensive five days meeting from 8th to 12th of May 2017.

Participation at European Forum Alpbach

The European Forum Alpbach organises annually an interdisciplinary conference in the Austrian Alps, which provides a platform for scientists, politicians and students of different disciplines coming from all over the world to discuss and exchange ideas. Scholarship holder Girum Kinfemichael Gebremariam got a scholarship from the Robert Bosch Foundation to participate in this year’s forum which took place between the 16th of August and 1st of September 2017. Project ROOTDEVPAL organised Summer School in Beirut

The team members organised in July 2017 the first out of two summer schools, which was held in Beirut. The summer school covered amongs others topics such as the research environments in Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Lebanon and Jordan, as well as conducting feminist research, the question for whom knowledge is produced for and critical knowledge production.

The conference took place in Cape Town, South Africa on 28th of June 2017.
