Here you will find general information that applies to every study and research location in Austria.

Embassies and Consulates

At www.bmeia.gv.at you can find information about the Austrian representative authorities abroad and the representative authorities of other countries in Austria.

Shop opening hours

In the cities the shops as a rule are open from Mondays to Fridays 9.00-18.00, on Saturdays 9.00-12.00, some also until 17.00. Some shops close for lunch (12.00-14.00). Grocery shops often open before 8 o’clock and close at 19.00. In the big tourist centres the shops are also open on weekends. Banks are usually open from Mondays to Fridays 8.00-15.00.

Some days are additionally free at universities and universities of applied sciences. These include, among others:

  • All Souls' Day: 2 November
  • possibly the day of the patron saint of the federal state in which the university is located
  • Rector's Day
