Evaluating Science Communication

How do researchers know whether they are reaching their target groups with their communication measures? In order to not just “do more” science communication, but to pursue targeted and impact-oriented science communication, the measures taken should be evaluated.

Even though the majority of the knowledge community considers evaluation to be an important topic, it is often neglected in practice, partly due to the additional work involved. According to a German survey, some stakeholders also feel insecure when it comes to their own knowledge and how to implement an evaluation correctly.

To counteract this and make implementation easier, Wissenschaft im Dialog developed the Impact Unit portal. The website offers a range of free tools, from reflecting on one's own goals, selecting instruments and planning evaluations through to concrete implementation. On its own online evaluation platform, evaluations can also be designed and carried out. The materials of the EU-funded project QUEST also offers insights into the basics and methods.
