In February 2026, the 10th Austrian Citizen Science Conference will be held in Styria. The Montanuniversität Leoben, the Citizen Science Network Austria and the OeAD Centre for Citizen Science are organising the conference, which will be held under the motto ‘Cycles of Knowledge’. The scientific conference with keynotes, workshops and presentations will take place on 24 and 25 February.
The OeAD Centre for Citizen Science will be represented with the following contributions:
• 24 February, 3:30-5:00 p.m. – Workshop on ‘Learning materials for citizen science: identifying needs, improving resources’, offered by the Citizen Science Working Group at/with schools.
• 25 February, 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the lecture session ‘On and about Citizen Science,’ Brigitte Tiefenthaler and Petra Siegele will present the results of the evaluation of the Sparkling Science 2.0 funding programme in their contribution ‘Sparkling Science 2.0: Enabler for diverse cycles of knowledge.’
• 25 February, 1:30–3:00 p.m. in the lecture session ‘Learning and Teaching,’ Elisabeth Schauermann will present new findings in her contribution ‘Between Research and the Classroom: Role Concepts of All Participants in Citizen Science Initiatives with Schools.’
Registration for the scientific conference is open until 3 February and the programme is available online.
On 26 February, there will be a public day that anyone interested can attend free of charge and without prior registration. The training sessions, workshops and a research kiosk will offer insights into various projects and opportunities to participate in research. The OeAD Centre for Citizen Science is offering the workshop ‘Citizen Science Award 2026 – How school classes can participate in research!’ from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. In this workshop, teachers will learn the details of the Citizen Science Award projects selected for 2026.
