  Accreditation of a Professional Diploma Course in Energy Efficient Buildings in Gaza

  We congratulate our scholarship holder Ayelech Kidie Mengesha, who was nominated with three other students for this award. Her research focused on the impact of rural land certification on household decision to plant trees and women’s rights to trees: The case of Gozamen district, Ethiopia.

  In Loving Memory of APPEAR Scholar Anne Mogoi Birundu (1989-2019)

  OeAD has been deeply saddened by the sudden loss of our scholarship holder Anne Mogoi Birundu, who perished in the ill-fated plane crash ET302 in Ethiopia last Sunday. Anne was a PhD student at BOKU, supported by APPEAR. We have lost a cheerful and caring person who was very enthusiastic about making our world a better place to live in. To remember the life of Anne a commemoration service will be held on Saturday, 23rd of March 2019 in Vienna.

  APPEAR Scholars contribute to the new PROSOWO book

  Jacqueline Murekasenge and Charles Rutikanga carried out empirical research on culturally specific and innovative social work practices in Burundi and Rwanda. Their research was part of the PROSOWO project and has now been published in the book "Social Work Practice in Africa. Indigenous and Innovative Approaches."

  Insights into CapNex: pictures & summary of the project visit to Uganda and Kenya in February 2019

  Two years of the APPEAR project CapNex have passed and with it two years of joint research on the water-energy-food security Nexus in the Ugandan-Kenyan border region of the Sio-Malaba-Malakisi River Basin. The studies conducted within the project cover a variety of topics including water demand and water management, energy systems, soil erosion and waste management. The partnership brings together partners from Makerere University, TU Kenya, TU Vienna and BOKU Vienna. In all four teams, Master’s and PhD students have been actively involved in the research activities.

The congress brought together expert knowledge and insights from practitioners from different sectors and interest groups at all levels of agriculture development.

  APPEAR project evaluation

  Purpose of the evaluation was to assess granted APPEAR projects. As referred to in the Terms of Reference (ToR) this evaluation aimed at identifying strengths, weaknesses and challenges during the implementation of the projects and at presenting recommendations for the remaining duration of projects assessed or future similar projects.
