Maria Lindhuber (University of Vienna) presented the ‘BiodiverCITY Island Hopping’ project, in which pupils from five Viennese schools are working together to plant insect-friendly plants on brownfield sites in Vienna (e.g. tree grates), transforming them into ‘biodiversity islands’. They will carry out ‘insect monitoring’ in these areas, i.e. find out which species can be found there. At the same time, it will be determined whether participation in this project increases the pupils' own closeness to nature, interest or awareness of plants and insects, for example.
Karin Liebhart (Institute for Conflict Research) presented the ‘CHANGE’ project. In cooperation with the project team, the citizen scientists at the partner schools in four federal states are developing co-creative research questions relating to various forms of social inequality. The project also aims to develop strategic approaches to reducing inequalities - in everyday school life, within peer groups and beyond.
The recording of the presentations is available to watch on YouTube.
