The Sitzenberg-Reidling library hosted a very special breakfast: Under the motto “Citizen Science - Research for everyone!”, everything revolved around the fascinating world of amphibians and the protection of their habitat. Maria Krall presented her research project “AmphiBiom”, in which you can participate in research as part of the Citizen Science Award. Together with Herbert Degen from the “Erdkröten in Sitzenberg” initiative, she gave exciting insights into the way of life and threats to native amphibian species - from the common toad to the green toad to the grass frog.
The interested budding citizen scientists were able to ask questions and exchange ideas with the researchers in a relaxed atmosphere. Many participants found the strong connection to the region - to the Sitzenberg castle pond, a well-known amphibian spawning ground - particularly authentic and approachable.
“Precisely because it's about our pond, it's so tangible,” said one visitor enthusiastically.
